PSME Blood Type Profile--Know your blood type

Posted By Rogelio G. Reyes, Monday, November 02, 2015

Mechanical Engineers are among those highly exposed to work hazards. As such, they are prone to all kinds of injuries and even death.

Knowing one's blood type, therefore, is one of the smartest thing to do to speed up the delivery of emergency aid.

Below are the profile of blood types of the PSME membership from those who registered online.

Most Common and Rare Blood Types in PSME

The largest group are those with blood "O" type at 30.5%.

Only 0.2% or 4 members have the rarest blood type "AB-." Blood types "A-" and "O-" are also among the rare blood types in the PSME membership. In this situation, it is best for these members to know each other.

A large group of members (9.1%) don't know yet their own blood type and a much bigger set of members do not have information {blank} in their profile.  And because the field "blood type" is a recent addition to the MyPSME profile, half of the PSME online population do not have information on their blood type. We encourage all members to visit their MyPSME profile and update their blood type or visit a clinic to find out their blood type.

Blood Donation Drive.

The PSME National leadership and our core value dictate that Chapter do CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) projects. On the top of the list of suggested CSR project is blood donation drive. As part of this drive, the Chapter could include blood typing as a service to members who will donate blood.

The Chapter can also partner with a local hospital or the Philippine Red Cross so that when they or a member of his/her family needs blood, the PSME member can ask for blood donation.

We can also ask blood donation to PSME Members in our database who have the same blood type. The Secretariat can e-mail or even call members if the need is very urgent. This is the beauty of having the blood type information in our members profile.

To learn more about blood typing, visit the Red Cross website.
